Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh participated today in the 5th EU-Arab World Summit entitled “A strategic partnership between the Arab World and the European Union,” held virtually on November 9th and10th.
Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the need to strengthen relations within the region in accordance with mutual interests and priorities based on international law and the values of justice, freedom, and the right to self-determination.
“Europe is very important for Palestine in the same way that it is important for the Arab countries not only for that we share the same basin for the Mediterranean, but also for security, economic development, peace and justice for the region,” the Prime Minister said. “Europe has always been with international law. Europe has also been the guarantor of the UN resolutions and the international order,” the Prime Minister added.
The Prime Minister called on the world to condemn and end the Israeli occupation. “It is time for this conflict to end. It is time that Europe will recognize Palestine as a state on the borders of 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital. It is time that we make this Israeli occupation costly because without making this Israeli occupation costly by all means, Israel won’t withdraw its occupying army from the Palestinian territories,” the Prime Minister stressed.
To conclude, Dr. Shtayyeh noted that the Palestinian unity is crucial and the Palestinian leadership deeply wants the elections to take place soon.
