New York – Prime Minister’s Office - Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Mohammad Mustafa stated that a full year has passed since the Israeli aggression against our people in the besieged and devastated Gaza Strip and Israeli government's intransigence. An entire year has also passed for the inhumane double standards in the Security Council, which have left Palestinian children, women, elderly, doctors, journalists, teachers and humanitarian workers without any protection, without any support, as if they were not even human beings.

Speaking before the United Nations Security Council meeting on the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question—convened at the request of Algeria—Mustafa highlighted the stark contrast between the solidarity expressed by the global community for the Palestinian cause, and the ongoing massacres committed by Israel: "We came to the UN and felt immense solidarity with our people and their just cause, yet we are leaving with Israeli massacres continuing, and the Security Council has still not restrained Israeli aggression."

Mustafa questioned whether the Security Council would continue its usual approach of condemnation and demands, while expecting Israel to comply, asking: “When will you activate the tools at your disposal to compel Israel to comply, to safeguard international peace and security? How much longer will Chapter VII be off-limits for Israel? Are you waiting for an even greater catastrophe? A wider war? Or are you waiting for civilians more 'worthy' of life?"

Reflecting on the outcomes of the past week at the UN, the Prime Minister noted that global leaders from various parts of the world and across political ideologies now recognize that it is irrational—and even insane—to continue employing the same failed strategies that have been used in the past to address the monumental challenges blocking a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace.

Mustafa urged the formulation of an international plan that includes necessary measures to change the reality on the ground. He called for the recognition of the State of Palestine, support for its full membership in the United Nations, and the implementation of the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion along with the General Assembly resolution demanding that Israel “brings to an end without delay its unlawful presence” in the Occupied Palestinian Territory within 12 months.

Additionally, Mustafa called on all nations to “join the global alliance, which was announced yesterday, to end the occupation and achieve the independence of the State of Palestine," as well as to support the Government's national plan Build Palestine.
