The declaration on Jerusalem by the US President and his decision to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem on May 14th are blatant violations of international law and disregard to the core values of justice and morality. Choosing a tragic day in Palestinian history shows great insensibility and disrespect for the core principles of the peace process. We strongly affirm that the holy city’s status quo must be respected and retained, while avoiding the creation of further tensions, which may further inflame more conflicts in our region. Our position is clear: the occupied East Jerusalem is the capital of the future Palestinian state.

We convey our sincere gratitude to all countries that had the moral responsibility to stand by international legitimacy to protect Jerusalem and support the Palestinians hope for peace. The UN General Assembly Resolution 63/30 of 2009 stresses that any actions taken by Israel, the occupying power, to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the Holy City of Jerusalem are illegal, and therefore null and void and have no validity whatsoever, and calls upon Israel to cease all such illegal and unilateral measures. 

We also call on all countries, which have not recognized the State of Palestine, to do that in order to create a momentum for the realization of peace, justice, and prosperity in our region. Moreover, we urge the international community to endorse the peace initiative of H.E. President Abbas in order to revive the stalled peace negotiations and bring the long-waited peace to our country and the region. The civilized world should not allow the military occupation of our land to destroy what we have impressively achieved and accomplished to which the world greatly testifies.
