Following the extension of the state of emergency by President Abbas, Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh announced new measures for the next 30 days as follows:
- All educational institutions- and all border crossings shall remain closed.
- Movement within and between governorates, villages, refugee camps, and main cities shall remain suspended. All citizens shall adhere to staying home per previously announced arrangements in each area.
- The next two weeks will be critical in terms of controlling the spread of COVID19 as 45,000 Palestinian workers in Israel will return to their homes with the start of the Jewish Passover Holiday.
- We are exerting efforts to arrange for the return of the workers with the Israeli side and to take the necessary health measures.
- Most of the new confirmed cases within the last week are among workers in Israel: 41 cases have been confirmed among 500 workers at the Poultry factory in Atarot settlement, bringing the total number of cases to 193.
- I call upon all Palestinian workers in Israel to commit to a 14-day quarantine in their homes. It's mandatory and not optional.
- Our capabilities today are much better than yesterday, and our readiness is higher. We have testing, quarantine, and treatment centers in every governorate.
-The health conditions of all positive cases appear to stable. There were only two critical cases in intensive care; both were discharged yesterday.
- We were able to test 390 samples a day, but now we can daily test 1,500 samples.
- Due to the implemented procedures in Bethlehem and since the very beginning: no new cases were registered in Bethlehem - and the infection didn't spread from the city.
-The Council of Ministers, the Higher National Emergency Committee, and the Security Services are regularly and closely monitoring, planning, managing, and implementing procedures for the safety and protection of our citizens.
- We are in close communication with all the parties in the international community, especially the World Health Organization (WHO), International Labour Organization, and the friends of Palestine from donor countries to international organizations. We also have a joint medical committee with the Israeli side that regularly monitors the workflow.
- The world has praised the measures taken by the Ministry of Health, the government, and the President. The Israeli Ministry of Health today apologized for the unofficial statements it made through a phone call with the Palestinian Minister of Health.
- Israel should assume its responsibilities, as the occupying power, towards the Palestinian workers and Jerusalem. It should not carry out arrests of Palestinian officials who are serving our people in Jerusalem.
-Our prisoners are held against their will. We continue to demand their release, especially the elderly, the ill, women, and children.
- Our people in Gaza, in exile, and Jerusalem are our responsibility. Despite the conditions of each of these places, we will remain loyal to the spirit of the one people, one homeland, and the single legitimacy led by H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas.
