Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh Briefs the Diplomatic Corps on Palestinian National Elections

 

Today, Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh briefed the international diplomatic corps, accredited to the State of Palestine, on the exerted efforts to make the elections successful. The Prime Minister clarified that elections would take place sequentially in three stages per the Presidential decree issued by H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas. 

"This election is very important to us because it will end the split and bring back democracy. We would like to see democracy flourishing and back on track," stated the Prime Minister. "This election is unique. It does reflect the agreement and political will of President Abbas and all Palestinian factions," added the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister stressed the strategic relationship between Palestine and the world's nations, calling on the international community to pressure Israel to abide by the signed agreements and allow our people in Jerusalem to participate in the elections by voting and nomination.

In conclusion, the Prime Minister said that the Palestinian- Palestinian dialogue is expected to be held in the first week of February in Cairo to discuss possible means of making this election a success and confirmed the government's will and readiness to exert every effort to make this possible.
