Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh meets with EU Representative

Today, Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh and Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff, the Representative of the European Union to Palestine, discussed the latest developments regarding the holding of the general elections in Palestine.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s will and readiness to provide everything possible for the success of the elections. “The elections is an existential issue. It is a real way to protect our people and democracy. The main entry road to reconciliation is through the elections,” stated the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister called on the European Union to contribute to the success of the national Palestinian elections through providing all forms of support and assistance, including financial support to the Central Elections Commission, sending international observers to supervise the electoral process, reaffirming the need to pressure Israel to allow our people in Jerusalem to participate in the elections by voting and nomination.

For his part, Burgsdorff affirmed the European Union's support for holding the general elections in Palestine, and expressed its readiness to provide monitoring and technical support to the Central Elections Committee.
