Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called on the United Nations teams in Palestine to monitor the situation on the ground in the occupied territories in light of a rise in the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli settlers and Israeli army. PM also condemned Israel’s deportation of Palestinian-French human rights defender Salah Hammouri after revoking his right to live in Jerusalem. 

Speaking at the outset of the cabinet weekly meeting, Prime Minister Dr. Shtayyeh called on the United Nations staff in Palestine to deploy surveillance patrols on the roads and in targeted areas, in light of the utter normalization of shedding Palestinian blood, field executions on the roads, and the escalation of terrorism by the occupation forces and Israeli settlers. PM added: “The UN has more than 400 vehicles and more than 1,000 staff that can be trained as UN monitors to observe and document the crimes of the Israeli army and settlers for the purpose of prosecution”. 

The Prime Minister, Dr.Shatyyeh also condemned Israel’s deportation of Palestinian-French human rights defender Salah Hammouri after revoking his right to live in his hometown of Jerusalem, he said: “We condemn the deportation of the Jerusalem citizen Salah Hammouri to France, after the occupation authorities arrested him administratively, withdrew his Jerusalem residency papers, and deprived him of his natural right to reside in his hometown”.  He further commented on the case of the detainee Salah Hammouri, that it summarizes a number of continuous Israeli violations against Jerusalemites with the aim of emptying the city of its indigenous population through a series of unjust laws and racist policies targeting the Palestinian presence in Jerusalem. 

During this meeting, PM also condemned statements by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in which he said he will not give the Palestinians more than self-rule and that security will remain in the hands of Israel. Dr. Shtayyeh facilitated his position on that by saying: “The statements made by Benjamin Netanyahu affect the right of our people to establish their independent state… and this right was achieved after great sacrifices, and was endorsed by international laws, yet it will not be dropped by a statement or a decision from any Israeli official”.

The Cabinet concluded this session by congratulating the State of Qatar on its National Day, and praised the outstanding organization and exceptional performance of the World Cup (Qatar 2022), and saluted the fans who were keen to rise the Palestinian flag, and were cheering for freedom.  Dr. Shtayyeh added that celebrating Palestine at the International Sports Forum in Qatar from the Arab and international audiences, reflects the rootedness of the Palestinian cause in the Arab and international conscience.
